Creation…every ten metres?

If it works for journalists and architects, why not for creatives?

Ten metres - a distance you could probably spit (and have definitely tried to). For some reason, within this diminutive distance lie several keys – the key to journalism (you can find a story every 10m), the key to architecture (if you don’t have something interesting every 10m, pedestrians get bored) and, possibly, the key to creation (not in a biblical way, of course…)

That’s probably why, when creative block strikes, we all go for a wander. Even if we don’t always realize it, the real world is full-to-overflowing with the kind of nonsense from which creativity rises. Be it the guy who tripped up a kerb and flapped until he fell, or the glorious coincidences that cry out to be immortalised on film, there’s always something to spark off your next big (and hopefully great) idea.

So, here’s a challenge: Go forth into the big wide world, notepad and pen in tow. Jot a word or two down every ten metres (don’t worry, you don’t need to measure…)

Take joy in the ordinary. Find beauty in the bog-standard. Then go home, ruminate, and tweet us your big idea (@Idealogy). Who knows what you’ll come up with…
