In Shakespeare’s "To be or Not to be" soliloquy, Hamlet contemplates the nature of taking action. Today, ‘the slings and arrows...’ comment has evolved to mean ‘adversity, troubles, bad luck. ("Merriam-Webster's Dictionary of Allusions").
As far as Paul Skinner, Idealogy’s very own Flash/AIR, Javascript and HTML5 Programmer, is concerned, there’s much more affinity with the latter. As the result of a recent illness, he had such a bad reaction to a medical procedure that his left shoulder went into uncontrollable spasm and, effectively, the joint went into melt down. Ouch!
But, as is the way with modern remedial treatments, and the combined specialist expertise from neurological, surgical and physiotherapy teams who worked on him, Paul is now on the way to full recovery with nothing more than a natty and ridiculously neat scar and an extensive rehabilitation program to show for his troubles.
It’s been interesting to watch a one-armed programmer over the last few months, and we’re pleased to report Paul was able to manage his way through the workload. But we did worry that his condition might become permanent as he grew into the heightened skills that develop when a human is immersed in that situation. However, we’re all delighted that he is now making a speedy, if not yet fully complete, recovery. This week he’s even discarded his stylish grey neoprene sling as a way to increase the use and sustained mobility of his arm.
Now he only looks slightly awkward – but so would you if you’d had Subacromial Impingement, Rotator-cuff damage and had just had a Brachial Plexus Block!
