Testing the future of content publishing

Tablet publishing is taking off in a big way with not only traditional houses like Conde Nast using the medium for interactive versions of titles such as National Geographic, GQ, Wired, and Vanity Fair but now brands like Mercedez-Benz, Jaguar, EMI, and Redbull are also extending their reach via this platform. The BBC have a wealth of digital editions  and The Times, Independent and other broadsheets have been quick to follow the trend too.

And the reasons for this are simple:

There is an enhanced user experience over traditional print content which is down to touch gestures such as finger swipes to turn pages, animation, interactive graphics, charts and slideshows. 360ยบ product panoramas, video and social media content. And certainly on the iPad, the brilliant resolution gives the publisher the opportunity to bring visuals to life, making the ideas and content resonate with the reader in a much more memorable way.

With this is in mind, here at Idealogy we’ve decided to find the most efficient and streamlined way to publish tablet content for not only our clients but for ourselves.

Adobe, pretty much the de-facto standard for Design and Development software worldwide have released Digital Publishing Suite but we’ve also heard about  AppStudio which has some impressive titles using it too.

We’re still testing both options but are aiming to have our own iPad version of the Idealogy Update newsletter (that we traditionally send via email) out later in the year.

We’ll let you know when it’s available. It will be a free download from the iTunes App store; we’d love your feedback on it and if you like it and think it’s an approach that your company could benefit from then please get in touch.
