Where’s Your Work? Part 7

Well, it’s that time of year again. Students are returning to campus like the proverbial bulls in china shops, overflowing with creative ideas. So for their benefit – and that of all creatives out there – here’s our pick of the best portfolio sites…

Our Verdict

If you’re just after a quick and easy portfolio shelf… Choose Behance. It seems to be the most popular, and with good reason. Double it up with a nifty LinkedIn profile, and you’ll be flying…

If you’re more of an illustrator and artist… Choose DeviantART. Yes, you may fall foul of pedantry, but you’ll be part of a large and global art community, which can’t hurt your reputation.

The likes of Carbonmade and Shown’d are yet to demand a lot of market attention. In time, their (free) upload limits may increase, but until then we’d recommend using them only as a secondary site, rather than your main portfolio.

We’d suggest… Sticking to Behance as the ideal host for your work. The LinkedIn plug-in is a handy addition, and the site is currently the best option around (short of building your own site). Of course if you have a specialism, or even design as a hobby, go further afield on the likes of Tumblr or Carbonmade. It’s doubtful than an extra platform will do you any harm, so long as you keep it fresh (and of a good quality…).
