Where’s Your Work? Part 4

Well, it’s that time of year again. Students are returning to campus like the proverbial bulls in china shops, overflowing with creative ideas. So for their benefit – and that of all creatives out there – here’s our pick of the best portfolio sites…

DeviantART (www.deviantart.com)

It’ll cost you… Have a guess (A:Nothing)

Pros in Brief. DeviantART claims to be one of the largest art communities in the world, with over 13 million artists on its roster.

Room for Improvement? A little. DeviantART may pride itself on the size of its population, but that doesn’t mean everyone wants to be your friend. Some profiles are more like a breeding ground for pedantic SFX fans than a place for artistic debate (not that we have anything against pedantic SFX fans, mind…). Also, despite a number of share buttons and embed codes, we haven’t come across any direct plug-ins for, say, LinkedIn. So it’s up to links and HTML to get your work to go multi-platform, which again can make your profile seem a tad unprofessional.
