Going, going, go Rhino!

This summer we were invaded. Not by holiday makers on their way to a variety of regattas and festivals on the Isle of Wight, and not by happy campers heading for the New Forest. But by Rhinos, lots of them! We found them brightening up a whole variety of locations around the city.

Marwell Wildlife has used it’s 40th Anniversary to highlight the very real and very significant conservation threat facing wild rhinos and to celebrate local artistic talent, with each rhino being individually decorated by local schools, artists and artistic groups. And you know what, with their visit drawing to a close I’m going to miss them. They certainly added interest to the lunchtime sandwich trip.

So if you haven’t stumbled upon one on your travels, go and take a look before it’s too late – they are off on 22nd September.

Here are just a few of our favourites…

And on a more serious note here is just one of the fantastic projects doing great work to protect these amazing creatures:

It’s important stuff – once they are gone they are gone!
