IOS 7.0 – the early adopters.

6pm was a busy time last night - Apple unleashed iOS 7 for it’s iPhone and iPad operating system. So were you one of the ‘early adopters? A few of the Idealogy team were. Brave or foolhardy, here are their comments…

Dan:
“I like it. It's sharper and smoother plus I like the new 'easy access' control center to get things like flashlight, calculator, airplane mode etc. It also comes with some great new ring tones!”

Dave:
“Yet again Helvetica rears it's head as the go to font of choice. But doesn't it look fantastic in iOS7. The interface styling, whilst subtle, brings iOS more inline with how we are used to navigating social media sites such as Facebook and Pinterest. Clearly a massive driver for the Apple design team. The overall fluidity betweens apps is nice change and the layered home screen is, as Jobs would say "pretty cool", though arguably gimmicky. So what's the next step for Apple? I for one can't wait to see how they integrate iOS7 into their desktop OS beyond OS X Mavericks."

Chris:
“My first impressions of iOS7 are good, its brighter, cleaner and more intuitive. The photos app is particularly impressive. After an initial download time of 30 hours! things quickly sped along. I was in the process of considering a new iPhone, but what apple have delivered here feels like just that, a new phone.”

Rich:
“Yeah, wait for all the iOS7.01 and the bugs to be sorted. If you go for the update be prepared by doing a full back and coping the iTunes backup folder to a safe place.”

Paul S:
“Nice movement as ever, like the slight depth of field parallax on the background pictures, love the Helvetica Neue font (maybe a nod back to Windows 8 Segoe UI font). Very pleased the UI has dropped the Skeumorphic approach.”

Simon D:
"My opinion is iOS7 is 'back-to-basics' for Apple. It will appeal to the core user base - designers and creatives - and if anything is a retrograde step. Simpler, cleaner, more typographically informed - nice look and feel. But does it do any more, work any better? Give me a week..."

And for the newly initiated, here are a few hints and tips about the changes and new features… enjoy!
