Into this world we’re thrown…

The most violent storm businesses of any size can experience is change.

Change re-writes the familiar processes people use as a safety blanket – the very act of ripping them up and starting again is as distressing for individuals as it is for the course of the organisation.

Question.  Why change anyway?

Well, a business that began life in 1989 as a Creative Services shop now finds itself as a specialist Brand Development consultancy.  So, it’s already happening, and bears out the words of a wise observer “Change is inevitable. Nothing stays still. Only growth is optional”

The next question is, “What will change feel like to many within the business?”

We think this is a pretty realistic illustration.

So, with storm clouds gathering, delivering change within the context of a mature business will be tough – both personally and operationally. Next challenge? How do we handle this topic practically without compromising the momentum and growth of the business?

Well for Idealogy, the answer lies in the creation of a ’Change Delivery Team’, a group of people with less emotional investment in a 25 year-old business and its set processes and protocols. In short, the newest Idealogy recruits were the answer to the challenge - and they’ll need to be ready for the atmospheric change.

The business has embarked on a Best Practice process that has quickly become a banner behind which the group will march, using a 10-point Best Practice plan as a delivery system to introduce a series of relevant, exciting, engaging and rewarding process changes that the other members of the group can happily embrace.

Calling them ‘Riders On The Storm’ might seem a little apocalyptic, and the doomy lyrics from the classic Doors track (the last song that Jim Morrison ever sang on) might, to many, feel a little bleak, but this will be a tough ride, and our team of four (Dan, Liz, Chris and Simon W.) might often need to dive for cover. However, their energy, individuality and willingness to keep knocking down the challenges will see this 18-month project succeed.

And we will all be singing a very different song then.

Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Into this house we're born
Into this world we're thrown
Like a dog without a bone
An actor out alone
Riders on the storm
